Quilting and making - A transformative Journey

Quilting and textile art are more than just hobbies; they're a transformative journey that has shaped my life in countless ways. My love for fabric art began as a simple interest. But it quickly blossomed into a deep passion that grounded me, provided focus, and offered an avenue for creativity I never knew I needed.

La Ventana (Spanish for The Window) is my new quilt pattern. The geometric lines of windows inspired the design. I played with many versions of this design until I landed on a pattern that has a three-dimensional look.

Each fabric I choose creates a blend of texture, color, and dimension in my designs. The best part of my creative process is imagining fabric colors and design options, and how to combine them into unique patterns. I have found renewed motivation, focus, and passion through stitching, designing, and making.

Quilting and fabric art have taught me the importance of patience and accuracy. Although sewing looks easy, every piece I design requires careful planning and focus. This detailed work has honed my problem-solving, organizing, and persevering skills. Each project teaches me something new about myself and the value of creating.

The creative process often reveals challenges like resistance, procrastination, and frustration. Excitement for a new project can quickly shift to self-doubt and hesitation. This resistance is a conflict between my goals and fears of inadequacy. Facing these feelings has allowed me to confront my limits and grow. Working through my frustrations has led to breakthroughs, helping me complete my projects. I've learned that these struggles are essential to creating and are worth overcoming.

Fabric Weaving is a fun textile art that just about anyone would enjoy. It's the perfect craft for parents to do with children.

Fabric Weaving

A fun craft that has endless options for creativity and play. It is so simple that there is room for experimentation without spending too much time.

The result creates an original piece that can be used in many other projects - pillows, pouches, bags, wall hangings, baskets, and more.

Discovering the quilting community has been a wonderful surprise. Quilting has the magical ability to connect people from all walks of life. Sharing my love of fabric art has enabled me to forge friendships and create bonds with fellow makers who share this passion. Together, we celebrate our unique expressions, swap ideas, and encourage one another to grow as artists and crafters.

The Quilting Community

Since I started quilting, I've felt accepted, supported, and part of the creative process.

Everyone should feel the joy of quilting and creating. I experience connection through workshops, social media, and teaching. I want to inspire others to discover the fantastic world of fabric and design, regardless of age.

Learning to quilt on the longarm.

Learning to use and operate a longarm quilting machine can be challenging and rewarding. The initial learning curve is steep, as each adjustment and technique requires patience and practice. However, the satisfaction of mastering this machine is incredible. From setting tension to navigating intricate designs, every step enhances your skills and confidence.

The Lume Quilt Pattern encourages exploration with color and design. By embracing imperfections and celebrating our efforts' unique outcomes, we create beautiful quilts that bring that beautiful expression of art to our everyday lives.

Lume Quilt Pattern uses a repeating traditional quilt block. The simplicity of the design allows for creative play with color through solid fabrics, printed fabrics, or a mix of each!

I am dedicated to sharing my love for design, quilting, and crafting. I encourage anyone to pick up their rotary cutters and embrace their creativity. Each quilt or project made is not just a piece of art—it's a step towards personal empowerment, a celebration of community, and a lasting legacy of love woven into every stitch.

Find a fun project to explore.

I hope one of my designs inspires you to make a project using a fun color combination, try fabric weaving, or create a pouch or basket. Whatever you choose, I hope you feel a sense of accomplishment and pride in the completion.
